Martin Odegaard

Martin Odegaard (born 17 December 1998) is a Norwegian footballer who plays as an attacking midfielder for Spanish club Real Madrid.

Youth Career

Joined the youth division of Strømsgodset in 2009.

Promoted to Strømsgodset first team aged 13.

Made his first team debut in 2012, in a mid-season friendly against local rivals Mjøndalen IF.

Had trials with Manchester United and Bayern Munich.

Started playing for Strømsgodset’s junior team in the fifth tier of Norwegian senior football aged 14.


Made his league debut for Strømsgodset against Aalesunds FK in April 2014. Aged 15 years and 118 days, he became the youngest footballer ever to play in Tippeligaen.

Signed a professional contractin May 2014.

Scored his first professional goal and became the youngest goalscorer in Tippeligaen.

During the Norwegian close season, Martin trained with the first teams at Liverpool, Bayern Munich, Manchester United, Manchester City and Arsenal.

Trained with Real Madrid in January 2015.

Real Madrid

Joined Real Madrid for a fee reported to be €3 million, it was announced that Odegaard would train with both the club’s first team and the reserves.

Was named in the first team’s UEFA Champions League squad.

Made his debut for Castilla in February 2105 in the 2–2 draw against Athletic Bilbao B.

Reported that he was finding it hard training with both the first and reserve teams.

Was an unused sub for Real Madrid first team for a home match against UD Almería in April 2015.

Made his debut for Real Madrid in May 2015, coming-on as a substitute for Cristiano Ronaldo in a 7–3 home win over Getafe. This made him the youngest debutant in the history of Real Madrid at 16 years and 157 days old.

Heerenveen (loan)

Joined Heerenveen on loan in January 2017.

Made his Eredivisie debut in a 2–0 home win over ADO Den Haag.


Called up for a senior international against the United Arab Emirates in August 2014, becoming the youngest player to play for Norway at senior level, at 15 years and 253 days.

Became the youngest player to start a European Championship qualifier at the age of 16 years and 101 days in Marcg 2015.
