Angel Gomes

Angel Gomes (born 31 August 2000) is an English professional footballer who plays as a attacking midfielder for Manchester United.

Youth Career

Started his career at Manchester United when he was seven.

Was playing for Manchester United’s Under-15’s side aged 13.

A picture of Gomes’ formal contract signing with the club was posted by his father on Facebook, and now the Portuguese youngster will be focussing on improving at the Premier League giants over the coming years.

Voted the 2015 Manchester Premier Cup Most Valuable Player despite the fact United finished 12th and he only scored one goal

In the 2014-15 season as an Under-15 schoolboy was an unused substitute for the Under-18 side on numerous occasions and finally made his debut as a substitute in the last game of the season.

Scored his first goal for the U18’s away to Derby County in November 2015.

Became the youngest player to score a hat-trick for Manchester United at Academy level in almost 15 years when he came on as sub in a 5-1 win against Newcastle U18’s in August 2016.

Rumored that Barcelona tried to sign him but he prefered to stay with Manchester United.

Named Manchester United’s 2017 Under-18’s Player of the Year, becoming the first 16-year-old to win it in the award’s 27-year history.

Manchester United

Came off the bench on the last game of the 2016-17 season against Crystal Palace.

Replacing all-time leading goalscorer Wayne Rooney. The appearance makes Gomes the first player born after the millennium to play in the Premier League and the youngest United player since Duncan Edwards.

Gomes also became the only United player to play at juniors level, then in a league game for the first team having skipped Reserves altogether.

Signed his first professional contract in December 2017.


Eligible to play for England, Portugal or Angola at international level.

Called up for England Under-15s training camp in 2015 although he was born in Portugal.

Captained the England Under-16 side in 2016.

Scored four minutes into his Under-17’s debut against Belgium.

Pulled out of England’s Under-17 squad for the 2017 Under-17 European Championship after he picked up an injury in training before the Dallas Cup.

Won the 2017 Under-17 World Cup as England captain, although he was on the bench for the Final.

Made his debut his Under-18 debut in September 2017 as captain against Brazil.


Son of Gil Gomes – a former Portuguese U-20 World Cup winner

His brother Rico was also on United’s books up until under 16 level before being released.

Cousin of Portugal and former Manchester United winger Nani.
