Wilkins Afriyie Interview
Wilkins Afriyie is a left winger for FC Volendam.
Today he talks to us about his football heroes and where he wants to be in 5 years time.
What position do you play?
I play on the left and right wing but mostly on the left wing as a right-footer.
What your style of play?
My style of play is a player with flair with lots of dribbles on the wing and always with speed.
What are your strengths and weaknesses as a player?
My strengths are my speed, technique and strength but my weakness is at the switchover if we have to defend but I’m learning it and it is going better right now.
Who are your football heroes?
My football heroes are Cristiano and Neymar. Why Cristiano Ronaldo? Because he is a hard worker, he did everything to achieve his goal. Neymar is also my heroe because of his flair and insane technique.
Best advice received? (from who)?
The best advice I received was from Timothy Fosu-Mensah. I know him a long time, because we live in the same neighbourhood and my brother used to play in the same competition as he did when he played for Ajax so they hanged out with each other.
He told me that I have to keep my focus on my goal that I want to achieve. If something is not going like it should go, keep trying and working, you have to want to be better every day!
Best player you’ve played against?
The best player I’ve played against is Solomon Owusu-Bonnah. He is a centre back that plays for Ajax and for the Netherlands national team Under-15 right know.
He is very strong, fast and has very good ball handling.
Best player you’ve played with?
The best player I’ve played with is the captain of my team, Calvin Twigt. He is a very smart midfielder that has an amazing overview on the pitch.
Where do you see yourself in 5 years’ time?
I want to see myself in the Premier League in five years. Why? Because English football is one of my favorites and it would be a great adventure for myself and something completely new for me.
I’ll keep training and continue to perform to achieve that.
