RB Leipzig have taken the German league by storm this season……. but how have they managed to finish 2nd in their first season Bundesliga?
Founded just seven years ago in 2009, The Bull’s only sign players who are under 23 years old and they have to fit the teams style of play.
It is this style that has seen Leipzig move up the German divisions so quickly.
Playing as a unit in a fast tempo, high pressing system, the strength is player flexibility. Wingers a capable of coming inside or staying out wide to be more traditional so they can counter or use Poulsen’s height and strength.
A busy summer saw them buy well. Naby Keita joined from Red Bull Salzburg for €15 million, the Guinea internationl has been one of the buys of the season with a playing style similar to Chelsea’s N’Golo Kante but with more goals.
Another singing was Oliver Burke from Nottingham Forest, making him the most expensive Scottish footballer of all time when they paid a report £13 million for the Scottish international. Burke has been adjusting to a new league but his pace has been a huge asset when coming off the bench.
Timo Werner moved from relegated Stuttgart for a fee reported to be around €10m. Stuttgart’s youngest ever goalscorer has had a fantastic season and his personal best with 21 goals and seven assist in 32 games, as well as making his German senior team debut.
