Leonel Galeano graduated from Independiente’s youth setup, the Argentine cente back was touted as the next Walter Samuel.
Made his Independiente debut aged 18 in 2009. Galeano enjoyed a fantastic debut campaign appearing in 34 matches and winning the Copa Sudamericana.
This lead to a call up and debut for the Argentine national team in 2010, playing in a 2-1 win over Jamaica. Although squad was formed exclusively by players of the Argentine league.
Strongly linked with a move to Europe after a series of impressive displays, Galeano fell down the pecking order at Independiente and the club were relegated in 2013.
A move to Spain on a free transfer to Rayo Vallecano followed but he suffered from injuries that prevented him from playing regularly only making 7 appearances.
Rayo decided not to activate the option of three additional years in the defender’s contract and he was released after one season.
Now back in Argentina with Godoy Cruz and looking to regain fitness and form before another move to Europe.
