The 2017-18 season is up on us and there are a number of new faces in Manchester United youth teams.
There have been two departures for the Under-18’s. Winger Faustin Makela has been released, spending a part of last season on youth loan at Bury after finding game time hard to come by.
Kayne Diedrick-Roberts also left Old Trafford, the young forward joined from Fulham in 2015. Had a trial with Charlton in March but at time of writing is still without a club.
Under-23 forward Josh Harrop left for Preston North End on a free transfer following a dream goalscoring debut on the last day of the 2016-17 season.
Dean Henderson (Shrewsbury Town), Matthew Willock (FC Utrecht), Regan Poole (Northampton Town), Cameron Borthwick-Jackson (Leeds United), Andreas Pereira (Valencia) and Devonte Redmond (Scunthorpe United) also left on loan, while keeper Joel Pereira was promoted to the first team.
A number of Under-18’s players including Ethan Hamilton and Callum Gribbin have been promoted to the Under-23’s, so who are this season’s new signings?
No relation to former academy winger Daniel, Ethan joins from Glentoran. A Northern Ireland youth international who can play on the wing or up front. originally had a trial with United in 2015 and has been monitored ever since.
Signed from Charlton athletic after starting his career with Belgium side Anderlecht. Capable of playing a number of forward positions, he could be a valuable player this season.
eligible to play international football for Belgium or Burundi, he scored on his Belgium Under-17’s debut last week.
The defensive midfielder scored while on trial in 2017. Had two spells with his hometown club Sarcelles with a two-year stay at Paris Saint-Germain in between. Turned down Italian side Juventus to sign a four-year professional deal with United.
Another player to score on his international debut, this time for France Under-16’s
Left Ajax in August 2016 after a disagreement with the Ajax coaching staff. It was reported that he had joined United in October ut had to wait for international clearance before he could play.
The winger then scored on his Under-18’s debut against West Brom.
Spanish midfield wonderkid who joined from Espanyol. The Spain Under-16’s international cought the eye of a number of top clubs, including Barcelona after being named most valuable player at Mediterranean International Cup.
An English centre back who started his career with Chelsea before signing a scholarship with United.
Had a trial at the start of the year.
