Man Utd’s Youth Signings for 2016-17 season

Head of Academy Nicky Butt has confirmed that fan’s can expect a number of Man Utd youth signings this summer.

Butt replaced Brian McClair as Head of the United’s academy in February.

In what has been described a ‘major revamp’ there have been other changes, Paul McGuiness has left his position as Under 18’s Manager, Head of Youth Player Recruitment Derek Langley is retiring and there have been reports that he is disillusioned with the state of the academy, Nick Cox has joined from Sheffield United as Head of Football Development and Henny de Regt, who spent 18 years as Head of Youth Scouting at Ajax, has been recruited as academy scout.

During the 2015-16 season a number of players have left the academy; Reece James (Wigan – £1m), Saidy Janko (Celtic – £200k), Ben Pearson (Preston – £200k), Vanja Milinković-Savić (Lechia Gdansk – free), Liam Grimshaw (Preston – Free), Tom Thorpe (Rotherham – free), Callum Evans (Barnsley – free), Ryan McConnell (released), Oliver Byrne (Cardiff – free) and Jordan Thompson (Rangers – free).

Adding to the transfers above there have been a number of academy players playing for the first team, including Marcus Rashford (11 games), Cameron Borthwick-Jackson (12), Guillermo Varela (11), Andreas Pereira (11), Paddy McNair (9), Timothy Fosu-Mensah (6) amoung others made the Under 21’s and Under 18’s a little shot and more players needed.

Matthew Olosunde

Joined United from New York Red Bulls in March 2016. Olosunde who can play right back or centre back has been compared to Dani Alves by his former coach.

Nishan Burkart

A fast forward that can also play on the wing. He captained the Switzerland U16 team as they beat Italy 1-0 in September where he scored the only goal of the game. His Father confirmed that he is joining United from F.C. Zürich in the summer.

Luca Ercolani

Italian centre back who signed for £50,000 from Forli and will join in the summer. Has trained at Carrington a few times in the last 2 years, went on pre-season with United’s U15/16s and trained with U21s on an occasion. Joins in the summer.

Lee O’Connor

A Ireland U17’s International at just 15 years old. O’Connor is capable of playing right back, right wing, centre back and centre midfield at. He has been coming over to United for trials for the past few years. Voted the 2016 Ireland U15 Player of the Year.

Tahith Chong

Joining United after rejecting the new contract with Feyenoord. Scored 15 in around 20 games for Feyenoord’s u17’s this season as well while playing mainly on the wing. Rated as one of the best prospects in Dutch football.

Elvis Azah

An Ireland u15s attacking midfielder/forward.

Along with the confirmed and strong rumours there have also been a number of links and trialist over the last 4 months…..

Gergely Hutvagner

Standing at 6’3″ the 15 years old spent a week on trial with United in January where he trained with the U18 team and played for the under 16’s in a game against Sunderland.

Ethan Ampadu

Under 15’s midfielder who has represented England and Wales at various levels. Had a trial with United in 2014 and has been on trial at Liverpool, City, Arsenal and Chelsea as well. His father is a youth coach at Arsenal.

Justin Kluivert

Son of Dutch legend Patrick, Justin is a winger for Ajax Under 17’s.

Scott Taylor

A 14 year old American forward who was on trial in Febuary.

Bartosz Mrozek

Has been monitored by United for over a year, Mrozek is a 15-year-old goalkeeper who plays for Lech Poznan. Has trained at Carrington.

Hossein Zamani

14-year-old Ajax forward who has quick feet and plenty of skills.
