Interview: Miles Palmer

Miles Palmer is a young footballer who plays as a midfielder for Great Yarmouth Town.

In this interview he talks to us about his debut and his upcoming FA County Youth Cup Final.

What position do you play?

I can play anywhere across midfield preferably wide right

What’s your style of play?

My style is high tempo as I like running at players and taking them on and trying to get good balls into the box.

What are your strengths and weaknesses as a player?

My strengths are my delivery and my shooting in and around the box and my weakness has to be my strength off the ball in headers and tackles ect.

Tell us about your career so far?

I started off playing for a team called Beccles Town which at the age of 16, then was lucky enough to be training with Lowestoft Town first team which really progressed me and my game, playing with such a high level of player at a young age really taught me a lot and the players helped me to get better!

Later that year I joined a scholarship programme called road2pro which gave me multiple opportunities such as playing top academy’s and earning myself a trial with Peterborough United.

This season when I signed for men’s side Great Yarmouth Town and that leads me up to today.

How did it feel to make my first team debut for Great Yarmouth?

It was a great experience as it is a good level of football for someone my age to be playing and I was lucky enough to score with my first touch for them against Wroxham away to win the game which again was a great memory of mine in men’s football.

Was it difficult playing against men at such a young age?

Yes 100%. It taught me a lot and made me mature a lot on the pitch! It really showed on the pitch as I was leaning how to properly use my body and you have to be much sharper at men’s level compared to youth football, you have to be a lot more mentally strong to deal with challenges that come your way!

I believe men’s football is the best way for a player to progress into a high level of the game which is what I’m striving to do.

You are about to represent Norfolk Under-18’s in FA County Youth Cup Final, what does that mean to you?

This game means a lot to me and a lot to everyone involved with Norfolk County FA as we have travelled all around the country in this competition and it is so rewarding for me and my team mates to make the final after some dramatic wins and hard work in the previous rounds!

How will you approach the game?

I will approach it like any other game. I will prepare correctly the night before and not get overwhelmed with the occasion. I have faith in every single one of my team mates that we can go out, get the job done and bring home the trophy!

Where do you see yourself in 5 years time?

I’m working hard to break through into professional football and will do everything i can to get to where I want to be!

You can watch Miles play live in Norfolk Under-18’s in FA County Youth Cup Final at Stoke City’s Britannia Stadium on 14th April 2018, Kick Off 2pm.

Football has been my ultimate passion since day one. Football really started becoming a huge part of my life when I was 14, but with the Internet not being as prominent at the time, I had a hard time finding pertinent information. And this is exactly how Football-Wonderkids came about. As the website’s Founder, I’m on a mission to curate information on current youth players across the globe and make it readily available all in one place.
